#003: Dancing Even When the Music Stops

Thomas Paris is a young Atlanta-based attorney at King and Spalding working in trial and global disputes.

In this powerful conversation Thomas chronicles moments, stories and insights from life with his late sister, Eliza. In June 2021, at age 28 and just 5 weeks after her wedding, Eliza passed away from complications with a rare form of appendix cancer. During Eliza’s 3+ year battle, she became a public figure and inspiration to not only her local community but individuals across the country showing us that while we can't choose the hand we are dealt in life, we CAN choose how we respond to it.

Eliza was inspired to find meaning in her suffering and used her story to make a huge, positive impact on our world.

Some highlights from the conversation include:

  • Details of Eliza's fairytale wedding

  • Learning to embrace and accept emotions

  • Stories from the hospital

  • Facing death without fear

  • How to find meaning in adversity

  • What it means to have an “Eliza Day”

  • How you can support others who are suffering

  • Overthinking and quieting the mind

It is a huge gift to have Thomas share so openly and raw about the life and death of his beloved sister Eliza. It is a deep conversation, yet one that has also has an overall positive and light feel. Eliza was always looking how to serve, and her brother Thomas is no different.

The link below is for the Team Eliza Cycle for Survival fundraiser which supports rare cancer research and specifically the research of Eliza’s cherished Dr. Reidy. Team Eliza is close to reaching their 2024 goal and donations can be made until April 15!
